...developing a religious response to climate change in Rhode Island *** Read about our historic Greening Your Congregation conference *** |

Global climate change is one of the biggest threats facing humanity today. The very existence of life – life that religious people are called to protect – is jeopardized by our continued dependency on fossil fuels for energy. Every mainstream religion has a mandate to care for creation. We were given natural resources to sustain us, but we were also given the responsibility to act as good stewards and preserve life for future generations. We must acknowledge that global climate change's societal impact already falls, and will continue to fall, most heavily on the people around the world who are least able to mitigate the impacts -- poor and vulnerable populations in the US and in developing countries, whose contribution to the problem is proportionally less. RI - IPL invites all congregations to make a commitment to address climate change by becoming a member and signing the pledge included in this website, or by participating in our activities. There is no fee to become a member. You will be joining with RI - IPL and religious leaders of many faith traditions in Rhode Island and across the nation, who are united in their desire to address global climate change through faithful congregational environment stewardship. Our major activities are OUTREACH, EDUCATION and ADVOCACY. Take Action on the national Energy Bill
